[JP] Hi this is Jay P. Morgan. Today on The Slanted Lens Review, I’m going to review Vanguard’s line of bags called the Xcenior bags and also their Supreme. Vanguard has been known for tripods forever, but they started to make a great series of bags of all different levels from professional level to very much a consumer level bag. I know this is a shameless plot. This is our sponsor and I’m talking about their equipment. I’m just sharing with you how I use this equipment every day and how it works for me on set.
The Supreme, I’ll start with that, the Supreme is a large, heavy case you can put on airplanes. You can fly with it, very, very compatible for flying and protecting your equipment. For me though, it’s the place I stick everything. All the stuff I’m gonna pull I put in this one case because it’s so large I can get most everything in there; all my cameras, my lenses, everything I’m working with. Then from there, I can feed it into other smaller bags depending on what project I’m working on and what I need. And you can’t take everything with you even though I try most of the time. I would fly with this on the airplane. I would throw it in, I would check it, no problem no issue whatsoever.
This one is the Xcenior. This carries all of our sound equipment, everything that we own. This has been on set with us for over a year. It’s in incredible shape and when I say it’s on set with us, we haul it out at least three or four times a week. It’s lugged around, it’s thrown in the car with all the other cases and stuff in our bonnet, so I’m really pleased with the rip stop nylon, the heavy duty nylon, the way they’re constructed really gives you a padded case and I did not clean this up to show it here today, I just stuck it up here. There’s things about it I think are really interesting in this series. It’s really great because they have rain covers for all these cases, they have also tripod. You can put a tripod either in the front, so there’s little pouch. This little pouch is hidden down underneath here… and that pulls out so you have a little tripod case in the front and then they’ve got the straps over the top. They’ll taut to put your tripod either in the front or they have the same kind of set up on the side. So I was really impressed. I mean things are kind of built in and hidden so that you really… if you’re not using ’em you just put ’em back in, a little piece of Velcro and they’re out of the way.
This is the Xcenior 41. This is a great bag if you’re going to put a C300 and all the equipment you need with it or a C500, you put everything in here just makes it, it’s for a bigger built up video camera. You’ve got that open top, you’ll get in and access everything. I think this is a great bag. It’s got a great handle, a strap, I just, for a piece of equipment you’re gonna top load it, it’s really a nice bag to work out of. Let’s look at these roller bags. Obviously most of what I like to use are roller bags just because of hauling them around. I do like the one thing about this. They have the zipper, this snaps on and it’s a double protection so your zipper is not going to pop open. And they also have inside which I think is really a nice set up. They have a pouch here, a net that they can zip around, it holds all your equipment in place so when you open this up, or if you hold it from the side it’s not gonna just everything’s not gonna just fall out. It has a great place for a 15″ laptop, a padded case that goes on it, lets it slide in there which is really nice inside. It has a great set up.
So again, these are just great overall equipment cases, you can fly with the larger ones, you can carry-on with the smaller ones. They’re just great bags built to use in that way so, and that’s how I use them. All the equipment goes in here, we download it into the other bags and away we go. But don’t forget it has this loop right here. This little loop, I have no idea what that loop does, but it has two of them. So just remember there’s two of those little loops, whatever they do.
