Today on The Slanted Lens, I am reviewing the Lexar Workflow HR2. This multi-slot card reader is the solution to a problem I have been struggling with for many years — spending too much time on dumping memory cards after a shoot. Who has the patience to spend hours waiting for each card to download one at a time? Not me, that’s for sure.
The Lexar Workflow HR2 connects to the computer via thunderbolt and sports four slots for different card readers. Each of the readers connects to the device through a USB 3.0 port and can be connected directly to the computer with a cable. The great thing about the tower is that you can transfer from all four simultaneously without experiencing any slow down. Since the readers are sold separately, it is easy to make sure you get exactly what you need. Get all four the same or mix and match from CF, CFast, SD and even micro SD.
Lexar also has a memory module that fits in the Workflow HR2. It currently comes in 256gb and 512gb but I hope there will be a 1tb module soon. Now you can download all the media from your cards to the computer and back it up to the module at the same time.
I think this product is well thought out. There are two thunderbolt ports on the back so it can be daisy-chained, the readers are hot swappable, I just wish it was a little smaller to make it easier to travel with. I love this product though. I have already started using it and will probably get a second one. Until next time, keep those cameras rollin’ and keep on clickin’.
