Today on the Slanted Lens, I am reviewing the new SpiderPro Hand Strap. There are some pretty amazing features on this strap that work very well for me. One is the fact that it is cut so far back. I have had several hand straps throughout the years, including the one that came on my first Canon, and they are all cut so the strap is straight down and often times sits right on the knuckles. The SpiderPro Hand Strap is cut in a curve so that it really wraps around my hand and doesn’t get in the way of my finger movement and the things I need to do when using the camera. The strap also cuts back far enough to allow easy access to the battery and memory card slots on the camera. A nice little bonus is that the strap is lined with velvet so it is very soft inside. This is honestly the most comfortable camera strap I have ever used.
This new strap recently started shipping at the end of March but I got mine early, just in time for my shoot out at the SKB case factory. I was able to easily attach the hand strap to the camera along with a tripod plate one day and the SpiderPro Holster plate the next day. You certainly do not need to have the camera holster in order to use this hand strap, but the two work very well together. When my camera was in the holster at my hip, I found it very easy to slip my hand into the strap, pull the camera out of the holster, and quickly start shooting. Hi, this is Jay P. Morgan. Today on The Slanted Lens, we’re going to review SpiderPro’s new hand strap called the SpiderPro Hand Strap. There’s some pretty amazing things about this strap actually that worked very well for me.
One is the fact that it’s cut so far back. I’ve had several hand straps in my life, certainly the one that came with my first Canon. But this one cuts back so it comes around my hand and what matters is that it allows it to sit deep on my hand and doesn’t get in the way of the things I need to do on the camera. They line this thing with velvet, so when your hand slides in there, it is so soft. It just feels very comfortable against your hand. That’s a very nice feature actually.
I can get the battery in and out without having to move the strap or take the strap off. This makes it really easy to get into the card case in here without the strap getting in the way. This makes it very simple to use.
I love this also that it comes with a strap here, pull that around, snap in on there then you got a safety, to make sure you’re not going to be dropping it if you forget this to hold in your hand. But it’s just a very comfortable strap to put on your camera. So if you love straps, and I certainly do in a lot of situations, this just makes it really nice.
This also is nice, so I can snap this off, I can slip my hand out, I can drop my camera right in. I find this really easy to just slip my hand in and the pull is off from the Spider Holster. My hands slide right into the strap. It’s just very simple to do for me. I don’t find it quite as intuitive to drop it in, but I found that if I drop it and just slide my hand out, it falls to the side. It just takes two steps to make that happen. But coming out is really fast and really simple for me. It just falls in place.
If I’m not going to be using this, if I’m really not going to be holding it, I’ll just take this thing off and just work with the strap here. In that way, I can drop this in, drop it off to my side, grab it and pull it out. It actually work really nicely in that way.
It’s just a little slower to go in as it is to come out and that’s probably better anyway. You want to get it out quick, you can drop it in, two steps. There is a couple ways to attach these if you have the side loop mount on the side of your camera. I think Nikon has that or the Canon that has the side slot, the horizontal slot. There are attachable fills, there’s a pin that goes in the bottom. You can put a plate on here. Actually you can put your Spider Holster plate and a camera plate and just keep stacking those plates on the bottom. But it just gives a nice place for this to attach on the bottom.
You can adjust it in and out to give it a nice fit that you want in your hand, to make it as tight or as loose as you want. So it makes it very adjustable. They thought through that whole process here and makes it really workable. This should have already started a ship at this point. They started to ship late in March. Everyone I have to use my camera or put their hand on this goes, “Oh my Lord, that’s fabulous.” Just the lining on the inside of it is very soft. It wraps around your hand perfectly.
