Hi, this is Jay P. Morgan. Any idea what a diopter is? Today on The Slanted Lens I’m going to tell you. Have you ever looked through a camera, and thought, “I’m looking through somebody else’s glasses! I can’t see a thing.” That’s because your diopter was not focused. There’s a little wheel to the side of your camera eyepiece. Look through the viewfinder and roll that wheel around until it’s focused on the black lines in the screen. That little wheel is going to allow the camera to focus to your eyesight. So you can pull focus in video. Your auto-focus will look focused.
If you shoot something in auto-focus, and you’re saying to yourself, “It doesn’t look in focus when I look through the viewfinder.” That’s because the diopter’s out. You need to adjust it every time you pick up a camera. Don’t figure it’s gonna be set to you because you did it last time. Somebody else could have been using your camera.
So focus that diopter. Just a little tip to keep you sharp and keep you moving ahead. Keep those cameras rollin’, keep on clickin’.
