Shooting Square and Horizontal Stop Motion Videos
Shooting square and horizontal allows you to use the same video on multiple platforms. There are two ways to do it.
Crop In
The first way to shoot both square and horizontal stop motion videos is to simply crop in.
Doing this means that you’ll need to keep the key elements of the video in the middle.
So in the B&H stop motion video we’re creating here, we’ve kept the B&H logo in the middle, and the other logos will come and go on the sides.
Use the Full Height
The second way to shoot a stop motion video in both square and horizontal format at the same time is to take up the full height of the sensor of your camera.
With this method you will have extra space that you can fill with additional motion, but normally this will just be extra background.
B&H Logo
Trisha made guidelines so that she could see both of the different formats. The Dragonframe stop motion software allows you to turn those guides on and off. Doing this allows you to have a live view of what you’re setting up and shooting, which will help keep things moving along more smoothly. She cut out all the logos and then lined them up using live view, keeping that B&H logo in the middle of her frame. It turned out great.
