What to Expect from the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6k G2!

We are talking about the Black Magic Ursa Mini Pro G2 today! Now we have shot on the Ursa Mini and the Ursa Mini Pro and the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k as well. You can check out those videos here.

The Ursa Mini Pro was a small step up for them, but this new G2 definitely has some features that we want to highlight. The first thing that pops out to me is the video specs.

Video Specs

It can shoot in 120fps in 4.6k, 150fps in 4k, and 300fps in HD and no crop in raw. Most cinema cameras, even the high-end ones nowadays crop at some point, so the fact that there is absolutely no crop is crazy!

You can get an SSD plate onto the camera and a lot of storage space. They have little USB out that you can plug in and stick an SSD onto it. You are going to be able to save a ton of money because those C-fast cards are extremely expensive. It shoots at 4.6k and just with the way things are going now 8k is going to be the new 4k pretty soon.

Interchangeable Lens Mounts

It has interchangeable lens mounts, which are really great, so you can get EF lenses, PL, B4, and interestingly enough an F-Mount. They have a 2,4,6 stop for the ND filters, I’m a little disappointed they don’t have something stronger at 8. I would love 1 stop increments, even with my C200, maybe one day.

One thing I love about Black Magic Cameras is that there are really great CODEC options for shooting. You have Black Magic RAW which shoots 3:1, 5:1, 8:1, 12:1 if you want to shoot raw and then they also have ProRes, where you can shoot 422, 442XQ, 444.

Audio Solutions

So for audio, they have 2 XLR outputs and you don’t have to open it up to see to the screen. You have buttons on the outside to be able to use those to run the camera.

It doesn’t come with the EVF though you are going to have to buy that separately. They cost around 1,500 to 2,000. You’ll definitely want an EVF if you are going to be using it on your shoulder or some other arrangement.

I’m really excited about this camera because on paper this seems like a great deal! However, I know the Black Magic is known for having some problems with quality control. I’ve had friends who have had to get their camera sent back to be fixed before, so it does make it hard.

In my opinion, the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera has been doing really well and hasn’t been having any problems. It’s a great camera for the price range and quality.
