Kenneth is pretty excited about the Canon EOS RP because he’s just a big Canon fan, but he’s more surprised about how CHEAP/AFFORDABLE this tiny FULL-FRAME mirrorless camera is going for. (Disclaimer: This is the lowest original starting price for a full-frame mirrorless camera, not in the market as whole.) Compared to the a6400, price wise and specs wise it seems to match up. However, the a6400 is not a full-frame sensor. This camera is a whopping $500 cheaper than the Canon 6d Mark II. Imagine how many things you could buy with $500.

So let’s look at the specs…
You have a 26 mp sensor, but it has an old sensor so the dynamic range is probably not going to be as good as other cameras.
It has a Digic 8 processor like the Eos R with an unlimited buffer. It shoots currently at 5 frames per second., which isn’t super fast.
Battery Life
There is a shorter battery life of 250 shots, which we weren’t too excited about. I would guess that the body is so small that it’s hard to fix a big battery in a tiny body.
Dual Pixel Autofocus in Photo Mode
It does have 4,779 autofocus points in the auto mode for photo., which covers most of the sensor. It’s not that much less than the EOS R. That is a huge advantage over DSLR’s because the focus points are usually bunched towards the middle.
No Dual Pixel Autofocus in Video
They don’t have a lot of good video features, but the dual pixel autofocus is the best feature. They do have the eye autofocus in both photo and video mode.
This camera body doesn’t have any sensor stabilization, which isn’t unlike the a6400. It’s competing in the same category as a lot of crop sensor cameras, but since it’s a full frame it has an advantage.
It has a swing out screen and a really small body. There is no LCD display at the top and it doesn’t have a touch bar.
Video Options
So you have a 4k with a 1.6 crop, but the strange thing is that you can’t get a 1080p with 24fps full-frame, it’s only available in 30fps. No C-LOG, no 10-bit output.
It’s interesting that there are no comparable lenses price-wise to fit the body of the Canon RP. The Canon RF lenses are starting off a lot higher price budget.
