Wedding Couple Time-lapse
For today’s wedding couple time-lapse we headed to downtown Los Angeles. We used two Genie Minis from Syrp and two Bajas from Dynalite. We combined those effects to get a really nice time-lapse we can use in a wedding photography or videography application. You could also do this same thing with a family, or really any subject that is able to stay still long enough.
Movement
Using the two Genies allows us to pan up, or across and up. The strobes we used because it allowed us to highlight the couple as the light around them darkened. We were able to have the two separate looks going. The strobe was lighting the couple and then we can still have the cars with their blurring lights. I really loved the look we got.
Time-lapse with Strobes
We shot at 100 ISO with aperture 5.6 and then dragged the shutter speed so that the cars and their lights would blur around the couple. I chose 5.6 because I didn’t want my strobe on full power. We started out on full power and my interval was at 3.5 seconds, and the cars were just moving too fast. So we lowered it to 2.5 seconds so the lights could recycle in between shots. At the end of the night the street lights were equal to the strobes so we turned those off and did another pass with just the ambient lights.
Conclusion
This was a fun lesson. This two axis setup from Syrp using their Geni Minis is a great tool to help get additional movement into your time-lapse. I love shooting in downtown, and it was great to see how you can incorporate something simple like time-lapse to help take your client’s events to another level. Get out there and try it yourself, then share your results on our Facebook group page. Thanks for watching. Keep those cameras rollin’ and keep on clickin’!
