Sometimes Production Just Stinks

Train Freak Out

I am sitting at my desk about to scream.

I’m having problems with the location that I want to shoot at this weekend. I am schedule to shoot at a train museum this weekend. I have a great shot of a couple saying goodbye standing next to a running steam engine. It’s a WW1 setting in the 1940’s. It’s shot at dusk with backlit smoke and soldiers going off to war. I called the lady a month ago, and she said it was a go. When I called back 2 weeks ago, I was informed that she is on vacation and wont be back until Thursday. I asked if there was anyone else that could verify that things are set up with the train and staff. Of course no one else can do or say anything except the lady that is on vacation. I asked for a phone number to reach her, and they said we will send her your message later today. Later today? What is wrong with right now?

Well I got no response for 2 days last week, and so I got more and more nervous. I called a lady on the board at the museum to see if she could contact her. She gave me a cell number to call. I called for 2 days and got nothing. It is now Tuesday of this week, and I have a huge shoot that is half together. I have talent that is ready to come but no wardrobe. I don’t want to rent wardrobe until I know that I can shoot. I have crew calling asking it they are on for sure this Saturday, and I don’t have an answer. I will call tomorrow when she comes and see what she says. I can’t win.

If she says, “Yeah, everything is all set,” I’m going to freak out because there is so much to do, and I am not ready. If she says no, we are not ready, and I will freak out because I have spent so much time getting things ready and the crew is ready and I look bad. To top it off it is Valentines on Friday, and I will be stressed trying to get things done. I’ve had those type of Valentines with Julene before. Lets go shopping for clothes or load some equipment for Valentines tonight dear. It will be very romantic. You know how shopping at Target for props really spices up a marriage. If things get really slow, we can gas some generators together.

Sometime Production Just Stinks. The moral of the story is that one month ago when I called and she said yes, I should have sent an e-mail to her that day stating the who what and where of production. But I was not sure what time or what train, so I procrastinated until I was 2 weeks out and the house of cards come tumbling down. I am so mad at myself. That position at McDonalds is looking really good right now. I can say do you want to super size those fries mam as well as any 16 year old. I will go to bed tonight knowing that tomorrow I will freak out.
