Trends from the Trenches – November 2014

November 14, 2014 By Morgan

In this edition of Trends from the Trenches, Jay P and Lars admit that the show needs a new name. Since the guys are fresh out of ideas, they are asking for help from you! Think you have a name related to photography and video that would fit this show? Post in the comments on the YouTube video before December 1, 2014, and if your suggestion gets picked, The Slanted Lens will send you a Photoflex 7-in-1 reflector of your very own. You can also help make the decision – just +1 or like the ideas others post in the comments.

Segment 1: Jay P talks about some of the people he met and products he saw at PhotoPlus last week. The guys discuss storage woes including the cloud and new products from Lexar and LaCie. Lars gets to play with the GoPro 4 Black and the Lumix LX100. With a fixed lens and a medium format, what would you use the Lumix LX100 for? What would make you choose to buy one over other similar cameras on the market?

Segment 2: What do ROSCO gels, iPhone cases, and a painted duck have in common? They are all in Jay P’s ugly canvas bag this month, plus a surprise for Lars.

Segment 3: What Does Ken Want to Talk About? Ken has a MyMyk directional mic to show and compare with the Rode VideoMic shotgun. How do the two compare? If audio isn’t your thing, Ken also has a new handheld, LED kick light that can be controlled with a smartphone. Lars wants one, or three. How would you use this instrument?

Segment 4: The benefit of doing the show at Samy’s Camera means the guys get to test new products on the spot. See what Jay P and Lars thought of Canon’s new 7D Mark II, then make your opinion when they take it out for a test shoot.

Enter this month’s giveaway here and you could win a Tamron 150-600mm lens.
