Why Use a Color Chart?

December 20, 2016 By Morgan

Hi, this is Jay P. Morgan. Today on The Slanted Lens I’m showing you how to use a handy tool from Datacolor, the SpyderCHECKR. This color chart and calibration tool will help you keep your post processing flowing smoothly and efficiently. Check it out!

The SpyderCHECKR color chart can be used for video or stills. It has 48 color squares. It allows you to quickly and easily adjust the white balance on your images. I love that this color tool has a 1/4 20  so it’s easy to stick on set.

You can also use the included software to create a color profile that will make processing large amounts of images as simple as the click of a button. Using camera RAW really makes so much sense, especially if you’re dealing with lighting sources of light in your scene. Getting the SpyderCHECKR in the frame on set saves so much time. You can also use it on set, with Capture One. Set up the very first shot to include the color SpyderCHECKR and you’ll be able to get proper color with just the click of a button.

After getting your color balanced correctly in post you can change your blacks, whites, and grays. In addition, you can make a preset to make your images look just the way they should.

The SpyderCHECKR is the fastest tool I’ve ever seen to get the proper color for your photos and videos.

Keep those cameras rollin’ and keep on clickin’.
