Today’s quick tip has to do with video and photo production. Protecting client’s (and your own) floors is essential. It helps put your client’s mind at ease, plus keeps you from having to pay to replace or repair flooring. Floor protection can also keep surfaces clean so that you’re not having to do a ton of touch up in post from dirty footprints. There are several ways to do this, so let’s check it out.
Protecting Floors
You can use lighter, thinner paper if you’re only going to be in the location for a day or two. If you’ll be there for longer than that you’ll want to get something thicker, like Ram Board, or layout board for really long shoots. You’ll want to secure those with blue tape, but be careful when using this. We did have a floor that was older, where the tape took off parts of the finish.
If you’re bringing in heavier equipment you might also think about using a furniture blanket. This can be helpful to really get some extra padding under there.
And lastly, it always helps to have booties on hand for your crew to wear indoors. It’s an extra layer of protection against dirt and other debris that can be tracked indoors. Make sure they put them on right when they come in, and take them off right before they leave.
