In this edition of Trends from the Trenches, Jay P and Lars admit that the show needs a new name. Since the guys are fresh out of ideas, they are asking for help from you! Think you have a name related to photography and video that would fit this show? Post in the comments on the YouTube video before December 1, 2014, and if your suggestion gets picked, The Slanted Lens will send you a Photoflex 7-in-1 reflector of your very own. You can also help make the decision – just +1 or like the ideas others post in the comments.
Segment 1: Jay P talks about some of the people he met and products he saw at PhotoPlus last week. The guys discuss storage woes including the cloud and new products from Lexar and LaCie. Lars gets to play with the GoPro 4 Black and the Lumix LX100. With a fixed lens and a medium format, what would you use the Lumix LX100 for? What would make you choose to buy one over other similar cameras on the market?
Segment 2: What do ROSCO gels, iPhone cases, and a painted duck have in common? They are all in Jay P’s ugly canvas bag this month, plus a surprise for Lars.
Segment 3: What Does Ken Want to Talk About? Ken has a MyMyk directional mic to show and compare with the Rode VideoMic shotgun. How do the two compare? If audio isn’t your thing, Ken also has a new handheld, LED kick light that can be controlled with a smartphone. Lars wants one, or three. How would you use this instrument?
Segment 4: The benefit of doing the show at Samy’s Camera means the guys get to test new products on the spot. See what Jay P and Lars thought of Canon’s new 7D Mark II, then make your opinion when they take it out for a test shoot.

I really love the camera, so beautiful, strong and attractive
Good Morning, in response to renaming Trends from the Trenches, what about Refractions? As in gathering light into one point, then splitting it into it’s components. Or even Refractions and Reflections. Since you guys add your take one the topics you review.
Good luck with your search,
Wayne.
I submitted it in the Oct by accident. Not sure if it make a difference.
Thanks Wayne!
I think it should be called something like,
Behind the Lens,
Trends from behind the lens,
Trends from behind The Slanted Lens.
Something along those lines. Thanks guys.
thanks for the suggestion. I’ll add it to the list!
For the show title: 1) Deep Focus; or 2) Depth Of Field.
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll add that to our list.
Gentlemen, thank you for all the great information and insight. It has been invaluable in my work.
As for a new name for the show how about “Lenses Forward” – “Viewfinder Happenings”. or “No Lense Caps Allowed”.
Great shooting,
Vince
Thanks! We will put that on our option list.
Hey Jay P.
I’ve been thinking about the new name for Trends from the Trenches and I have a couple of suggestions.
What about “Flash Zone” or “Flash Point”.
I hope this help you guys.
Roberto C.
Thanks Roberto! I’ll put it on the list.
Jay P. and Hector
Did you guys review the tamron 70-300mm f 4-5.6 di vc usd lens.
I like sport and wild life photography and I am looking to buy a lens that can get close to the subject.
I am not a professional and my budget is really small.
What you guys think about this lens ? it has a very good reputation for the VC.
Can you help me with the decision ?
Thanks.
How about “Staying in Focus with The Slanted Lens” Or “Upgrade Your Focus with The Slanted Lens”. Great work and I love the videos!
Thanks Joe! I’ll add that to the list.
