Trends from the Trenches – May 2015

May 14, 2015 By Morgan Leave a Comment

Jay P and Lars have a lot to talk about in this post-NAB episode of Trends from the Trenches. It is the year of stabilization, with announcements from Ronin and MoVI, but helicopters seem to be the next big thing. The guys also speculate over announcements from BlackMagic and releases by Shogun and Rosco. Jay P wraps up the news segment with a final farewell to PhotoFlex who declared bankruptcy in April. What NAB news story got you excited? Share in the comments below.

Today in Jay P’s ugly canvas bag, he has the new extreme long exposure filters from Tiffen (http://tiffen.com/tiffen-filters/xle-series-2/) and the small, bison leather Roamographer bag(http://holdfastgear.com). Check back later this month on The Slanted Lens for a full review of this camera bag from Hold Fast.

What does Ken want to talk about? This month Ken is talking storage! Everything from portable hard drives to external RAID drives, Ken explains the uses for each and how to prevent losing important data. His best tip? Think about how much you are shooting, and how much access do you want to have to that media.

Jay P and Lars answer questions from viewers in the final segment of this month’s show. What kind of camera do you need for stock photography? Should you always shoot in Manual mode? How do you light a green screen? Get all the answers here. Post more questions and comments below any it might be read on the next episode.

Want to watch the show but don’t have an hour to spare? The Slanted Lens is posting segments of this show on Facebook weekly!

Don’t forget you can also listen to Trends from the Trenches as a podcast while you are driving to work, walking the dog or walking the kids!
