Under $350 each for a 24mm and a 35mm for a Sony mirrorless camera?! THIS SHARP?! That’s incredible!
Hi this is Jay P Morgan and today on The Slanted Lens we’re going to take a look at the new 24mm and 35mm 2.8 lenses from Tamron! These are Sony lenses, small, compact – excellent for that mirrorless camera. So let’s go out and see what we got!
So these are very lightweight lenses.
The 35 is 7.4 and the 24 is 7.6 so it’s just slightly heavier but they’re both extremely light weight and small. About 2.5 inches in height and 67mm for the filter size – it’s very compact and striped down because all of your automatic features are on the inside of the camera, which at first I was wondering about but then I got it and was able to change everything on the back of my Sony and it works extremely fast and is easy for me to do.
I love the fact that they’ve stripped these down to make them extremely small. It matches the mirrorless format much better and I think in doing that it makes these a home run!
A lot of times when you put a G master lens on these they are soo large and it just kills the fact that you’re carrying a mirrorless camera.
These lenses really are macro lenses. You can focus extremely close. I al right on top of this 4.7 inches with the 2mm and 5.9 with the 35mm, so I’m going to take a shot with each of these and take a look cause it’s very close!
The lens shade for the 35mm is really interesting because it’s a cut out – they can do that because the elements of the lens are set back into that 2.5 inch housing because they want to keep these all in that same housing.
So this just pops on and gives you that box. It’s great for cutting that light off and that’s really nice.
The lens shade for the 24mm lens is more traditional. It’s out on the front because the elements come right up to the front of the lens.
Let’s take a look at the bokah – I shot with it this morning. These are 7 blade lenses and even though they’re 7 blade lenses the bokah looks fabulous on them.
When I’m shooting directly at the sun I’m not getting any chromatic aboration – they can hold the flare. That’s really the test of a good lens, keeping a solid good flare even when I’m looking directly into the sun.
So there you have it! The 24mm and 35mm lenses from Tamron! Love the small lightweight form factor that these have. It matches a mirrorless camera for me completely. I love that they are super sharp and the focusing distance is awesome. That 35mm really is a macro lens – well they’re both a 1-2 – but with the 35 it blows things up slightly and gets you really close.
Overall I think these are great travel lenses, and the price is one of the most important things. They’re at $350 each – it’s so easy to pick these up and put in your kit if you’ve got a second or third camera you need to be able to shoot with.
Great lenses – great offer from Tamron!
Keep those cameras rolling and keep on clickin.
